Night was beginning to fall as the sun neared the end of its descent into the
horizon. Dark clouds began to form, signaling the coming of an approaching
storm. Logan swore upon his own life that this would be the final sunset
Garibaldi would ever see.

Logan stood upon the altar and gazed upon the four slates surrounding a fifth.
Surely, this was the place that Murlock had told him about. This had to be the
point where the powers of the four elemental swords combined into the Sword of
Darkness to forge the Sword of Iconoclast.

One by one, he removed the swords from his trench coat. The swords of Fire,
Earth, Water, and Sky lay upon the floor at his feet. With all four elemental
swords in his possession, he had dealt another paralyzing blow against
Garibaldi and the Scourge. The destruction of the ship, the assault on the
cathedral, and the slaughter of hundreds of his former comrades were all
another feather in his cap, all in the name of his beloved Katrina. If only
she could see me now, how proud she would be!

He had stolen the Sword of Fire, Garibaldis inheritance. He had recovered the
Sword of Water, robbed from the tomb of Minervas biological father. He had
once more claimed the Sword of Earth, confiscated twice from Edward. And
finally, the Sword of Sky, entrusted to him by Murlock, stolen by Garibaldis
henchmen, and recovered by his bravery. All that was left was the Sword of
Darkness and it surely had to be closer to the heart of Garibaldis empire.
The trials of Fire, Sky, Water, and Earth had tested him and he passed. He
had risked becoming a human torch, braved terrifying heights, swam through
an underwater labyrinth, and avoided becoming a human pancake. His success
filled him with great joy and confidence. More than ever, he was confident
in his ability to succeed in his mission. Every step further into the castle
was another step towards success. So much depended on him; the fate of
humanity as well as the freedom and future of this land.

He picked the Sword of Sky by the hilt. Having been with him since he began
this epic quest, the sword was been a worthy companion on his adventure, but
now, the time had come to part company. He was almost sorry that it had to be
this way. But every hero had to make sacrifices for the greater good.

But where was Edward? He should have been here, Logan thought. His stomach
churned with worry. Had something happened to him?

Just as he was about to insert the swords blade into one of the slates, the
sounds of footsteps was heard behind him. Not taking any chances, Logan spun
on the intruder, aiming straight his shotgun.

But something kept him from pulling the trigger. The intruder was dressed in
a cloak as were the rest of the Scourge soldiers, but his weapon was nowhere
to be seen.

Take it easy Logan! he said holding up his empty hands. Its me, Edward!"

Relief flowed through his blood as Logan lowered his shotgun. Had he pulled
the trigger, he would have slain an innocent man, something he knew Katrina
would never have done. Are you crazy? I could have killed you!

Then my disguise worked perfectly, Edward said with a grin as he pulled off
his hood. Maybe a little too perfectly! He climbed up the steps to meet with
Logan.

Where did you get those swords? he asked pointing to the swords of Fire,
Water, and Earth.

In the elemental trials, said Logan as he drove the Sword of Sky into a
slate. I found your Sword of Earth as well as the swords of Fire and Water.

Edward stared at Logan in astonishment. My friend, mere words cannot express
my admiration of your skill and courage. The more I understand what you are
capable of, the more my heart is filled with hope.

Edward placed the Sword of Earth into a second slate.

How did you manage to escape the dungeon? asked Logan as he drove the Sword
of Fire into another slate.

With this, said Edward revealing a small dagger. I killed the guard who
planned to torture me, stole his uniform, and disguised myself. I was able to
escape undetected by the others.

I wish I had it that easy, Logan thought to himself. I had to shoot my way out
to escape.

Youre a very brave man Edward, said Logan. Not to mention cunning as well!

Not as brave as you, said Edward.

Logan picked up the Sword of Water and was about to drive it into the final
slate surrounding the central one when Edward cried out, Stop!

Whats wrong? asked Logan.

Well need the Sword of Water to undo the curse cast over Minerva.

It dawned on Logan that Edward was right. Just as the Sword of Earth had
returned him to human form, so too would the Sword of Water do the same for
Minerva. He blushed in embarrassment at this mistake.

Sorry. He handed over the sword to Edward. He tucked it away into the cloak.

All we need is the Sword of Darkness. My guess is that Garibaldi has stored
it in the nearby tower. Edwards hands shook with fury. And my beloved
Minerva as well!

It will be dangerous, said Logan. Youd better let me go first so I can
clear a path for you. Its obvious that I am better suited to fight
Garibaldis guards than you.

Edward nodded. Your strange weapons are strong. They may be better suited to
fight his army than even a magical sword.

Well wait for nightfall and begin our final assault in the darkness, said
Logan.

When night came, the first lightning strikes and thunderous booms of the storm
had passed. Logan readied his weapons.

Wait here, he said to Edward. Ill come back for you when the way is clear.

Edward nodded in agreement. Be very careful my friend. You are about to enter
the lions den. I wish you luck!

Logan passed through the door and closed it behind him. He turned his
attention forward towards the tower.

Rock and roll time!
